What did I miss? I am continually investing in m What did I miss?

I am continually investing in my kit for my video content creation shoots. I have DJI video camera with gimble, mics, lighting, tripods, a green screen, a remarkable move to keep track of shoot notes, and in March I am also off to the photography show who also have a section on content creation. I am rather excited about that! Because it’s important to me I continually improve and get better in order to offer the best service.

It’s also why I love training and sharing my knowledge. We grow when we learn.

Share with my what is your favourite bit of kit in your business?

Today @thebusinessnest and I did something differe Today @thebusinessnest and I did something different and we loved it! We ran a private reels workshop for a group of small business owners in the comfort of @poweredbyyou_movement ‘s gorgeous home.

This is a new training service we are offering. You can still book us just as you normally would. But if a group of you wanted to book us for a private version of one of our workshops at a venue of your choice, we can do that for you too.

We did it for 6 lovely business owners today, and it was really lovely. Robyn and I could be really hands-on and tailored with our guidance.

If you are interested in learning more, just drop either of us a DM.

17 years ago something happened that I did not see 17 years ago something happened that I did not see coming. I was made redundant from a job I absolutely loved. And I was so sad about it. I loved that job and worked my way up from assistant to manager and I don’t think I would have ever left if I hadn’t been made redundant.

But as I reflect 17 years later, I can see that I needed to leave. It was time for me to grow and tackle different challenges. To learn new skills and expand my knowledge and experience. But when you’re in your comfort zone, it’s hard to leave it isn’t it? Because you feel safe there.

I can see now it was the push I needed. I learnt so much in my new role working for a very different business, with a very different and super talented group of people. While I had lots of experience in fashion and retail marketing, I had never delivered B2B services before, I had never pitched, or had any experience of sales and pipelines. And it was a great thing for me to learn.

And 17 years on, I can see that I needed to do that job to be able to be where I am now. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, even if at the time it can feel pretty pants. The Laura I am now needed me to change, to learn and develop, so I could run this business and grow my own team. Which for many years felt like pipe dream that would never happen.

So if you’re wondering why something pants is happening to you, save this post and remember. Future you may very well need this pants thing to happen, so you can become who you are meant to be.

I always think it’s so easy to criticise yourself I always think it’s so easy to criticise yourself and find yourself lacking. But do you ever stop and pause and think about how far you’ve come?

Today I did a talk @coworkcrew Reading (such a lovely venue and group of people), and it made me think about my journey. My battle with imposter syndrome. And how somehow over the last year I don’t really think to much about talking in front of people. I actually enjoy it.

I love the challenge of the questions that people throw at me. My hands don’t shake with nerves, in fact they waive around like a fairy 🤣

I don’t pause when people ask me to go on video. But this was not always the case. And this I think is a reminder that if you see someone doing something you wish you could do, don’t compare yourself. It never helps. They might be further along in their journey, it doesn’t mean they weren’t once where you are.

Have you reflected back recently? What is the one thing you are proud of that you can do now?

Did anyone else find January an utter slog? I real Did anyone else find January an utter slog? I really struggled and I am usually a half glass full type of person. I have been trying to support my children with a couple of things, seeking a referral for myself for something I need support on with my health (nothing major), and have been feeling generally just fatigued. I don’t think the negative political landscape has helped at all either.

But I always look for positives in my life and I did have some awesome things happen in January, particularly in my business. I have some awesome clients, I have signed two more. I have rub strategy sessions, power hours and video. And watch Bo absolutely fly at his martial arts grading which was lovely to see.

If you are long term follower from back in my blogging days you will know gratitude is a massive part of my life, and it practise it daily. So these are all things I am super grateful for. But I also think I am longing for spring.

How was your January?

I know there are a few of you that hate it, but if I know there are a few of you that hate it, but if social media is part of your 2026 plan - it needs to include video. There is no escaping it any longer.

If the idea of turning up on video sounds unbearable or you just struggle to fit everything in (I get it on both counts). This is what I do. I help small business owners and entrepreneurs just like you get in front of the video camera. And my goal by the end of it is that maybe you’ve laughed. Or maybe you feel just a bit proud of yourself because you have shown up and put yourself out there for your business.

I offer content creation or full social media management as well as email marketing, marketing support and strategy. Don’t hide away in 2026. You and your business deserve better.
