A book about pants is a book that in general cannot go wrong in my house. Pants are quite frankly hilarious, particularly in my son’s world, and if you’re an octopus with 8 legs getting a pair of pants that fit is quite a tricky business!

Octopants follows one Octopus’s quest to find a pair of pants that fit, can he get some in the local shops? Can he get some online? Of course he’s not the only sea animal that struggles to get clothing have you ever tried to get some slipper socks that fit a seal?

I’m always a fan of illustrations in children’s books and Claire Powell’s are great. They’re colourful, funny and rich with details, I particularly love the facial expressions. I’m also a fan of the rhyming narrative.

This book is aimed at children aged 3-6 years, I would say this is probably right for the younger scales of the spectrum, more towards the 3 or 4 year age group. While my son found the fact the octopus was not wearing any pants was funny, I would say it was too young for him really.

Verdict:

A fun, brilliantly illustrated book great for any child who knows that pants are definitely hilarious.

  1. This sounds like a funny book, like you say I think my six year old would be unimpressed by it but I’ll bear it in mind for when my two year old is old enough to understand pants jokes! #KLTR
