Today I would like to welcome to the blog Vi from Dancing in My Wellies, I spoke to Vi on Twitter long before I became a blogger. She is guesting in my new series where different people share their five favourite books in a chosen genre. Vi shares with us this week five books for 5-8 year olds. These are probably a bit old for my children yet, but I will be bookmarking it for the future and I can’t wait to read Harry Potter with them.
My Favourite Five Books for 5 – 8 Year Olds with Vi from Dancing in My Wellies
1. Awful Auntie – David Walliams
This was one my son couldn’t put down, and actually neither could I! We read part of it together at bedtime, but he couldn’t wait for me and read ahead on his own. It’s funny, thrilling, and heart warming all in one story!
2. Danny Champion of the World – Roald Dahl
Strip this story right back, and it’s just a fabulous book about a boy and his Dad.
3. Horrible Histories: Rotten Romans – Terry Deary
It’s revolting, educational and lots of fun to read!
4. You’re a Bad Man, Mr Gum! – Andy Stanton
This one we decided was a bit weird, but funny! Great for a reluctant reader, with short chapters, plenty of illustrations and lots of laughs!
5. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone – J K Rowling
Whisk them away to Hogwarts! The first in the Harry Potter series, it took my 8 year old a little time to get into the story, but once he was a few chapters in he was gripped!
