My Top Eight TV Shows of 2019

retro tv with sparklling discoball on screen

My husband and I love a good TV show binge watch. Although our tastes can differ. I’m not really into trendy shows as such. I watched Finding Eve, enjoyed it, but it didn’t make my favourites. Stranger Things is ok and I didn’t really get Fleabag. But for 2019, here are some of the TV shows that I enjoyed the most.

Chernobyl

I knew about Chernobyl, it was covered in history at school. But until I watched the TV show I realised I didn’t really know about Chernobyl. The show was compelling and fascinating and I found myself googling Chernobyl afterwards fascinated with finding out what really happened.

Game of Thrones – The Final Season

I think pretty much everybody was disappointed with the ending of the show. But during The Long Night I was literally on the edge of my seat. It was an amazing and epic episode. If the show had ended there I actually think it would have been better.

Grey’s Anatomy Season 15

I love Grey’s Anatomy I think it is probably up there as one of my all-time favourite shows. I do miss some of the characters who are no longer in it, but it’s always I show I love to watch. If you’ve never watched it before, go and start and season 1 and work your way through it, you won’t regret it!

New Amsterdam

I have a bit of a love of medical dramas, so my sister recommended New Amsterdam to me. It’s about a doctor who is employed to turn around a struggling hospital. But the doctor himself has a lot of personal issues. It was great, I really enjoyed it and wanted to start the next series as soon as I finished season 1.

The Good Doctor

This is another show that was recommended to me. With Freddie Highmore starring as an autistic surgeon. Freddie Highmore is so superb, my Mum who hasn’t seen The Bates Motel, told me she had to google him and see if he was really autistic. A really great show and a fascinating insight into life with autism too.

After Life

Firstly let me say, I am not a fan of Ricky Gervais at all. I’ve not seen The Office or Extras, so I was rather reluctant to watch this show when my husband recommended it. It’s about a man coping with life after the death of his wife, who coping with his grief because impulsive attitude to life. It’s a great mix of humour and sadness.

Big Little Lies

Such a stellar cast. With Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Meryl Streep. How could you possibly go wrong? The first series is definitely the better of the two, my husband and I binged watched through the episodes.

Line of Duty

It’s been a few years since we had a Line of Duty on our screens. I’m not the biggest fan of British drama as you can probably tell by my list, but this series really is brilliant. We watched them all the way through from the beginning again.

  1. Some absolute crackers here. I’m of a similar opinion to you about Ricky Gervais but I thought afterlife was exceptional. Really good twists in New Amsterdam in last episode too!

If you haven’t already seen it. I recommend This is Us!
