To my Son on his 8th Birthday

Dear Logan,

When I write these letters I always think over how much you have changed in the last year, I also wonder what you will get up to in the year ahead. When I read the letter I wrote to you on your 7th birthday, particularly this year I am struck by just how much you have changed. You have grown up so much, into your own little person and I am starting to see more and more the man you are going to become.

This year you really have done so much growing up. You have started junior school, you have begun to have a much strong opinion of who you are, your likes and your dislikes. From your taste in clothes, how you want to wear your hair (you are currently growing it longer), to getting your ears pierced for your birthday. As well as the music you like.

You’re doing extremely well at school, and only got 7 questions wrong on all of your Y2 SATS, putting your pass rate at 95%. You love to read and have a bit of an insatiable reading for books, in fact you read 60 books over the summer – thank heavens for the library! You have already got your 2, 5 and 10 times table badges. You love to learn, although you still have a crazy love of inventing things and building junk models.

Last year you started The Rock Project and you have gone from strength to strength there. You love to play the guitar and usually practise everyday. In the summer you performed in your first ever concert and did so well. In the summer holidays you also started having some separate tuition from your guitar teacher outside of rock school too.

Your favourite things to play with are Lego, nerf guns and Transformers. In fact, you can sit for hours building Lego models and creating different inventions. You also enjoy playing Knights with Aria and doing craft projects. You love to watch Transformers, Power Rangers, Inspector Gadget and Mr. Bean on the TV.

You’re a great big brother and play with Aria and try to help Mummy keep Bodhi out of trouble. Your best friends are Bella, George, Michael, Joey and Erian (all the way in South Africa). You also love seeing your cousins, and having nerf wars with Adam.

We’re off to Center Parcs next week which you’re really excited about and as I write this post, unbeknownst to you there is a brand new bike sitting in the garage for you. I am pretty sure you’re clueless about it, ready for you to cycle there. I can’t wait to see your face! You have asked for the new illustrated Harry Potter book (The Goblet of Fire), a leather jacket like Daddy and Transformers for your birthday.

You have a cheeky sense of humour, love jokes and anything about bums or willies are completely hilarious. At the moment when you grow up you want to be an electrician. This is so that you can do all of the electrics in the treehouse you want to build to live in when you’re a grown up. Completely inspired by the 13 Storey Treehouse books (some of your favourites). Your treehouse designs even have their own folder.

Happy birthday my amazing little dude. I am so proud of you, for all you have achieved and all you have become (so far). You make me smile and fill me with love everyday. I simply cannot wait to see what the next year holds.

Love Mummy x
