Valentine’s and International Book Giving Day

Valentine's and International Book Giving Day

Valentine’s and International Book Giving Day

Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope you are having a suitably loved filled day, whether is it with your partner, your children, or making some time for yourself and a bit of self care.

My husband and I are off out to dinner tonight and I cannot tell you how excited I am by this! Simply because we haven’t managed to do this since Logan was born, and actually we often couldn’t manage it then as Ben’s old job used to do a big event over Valentine’s weekend that he had to attend so we often didn’t get to celebrate it together at all. But this year we have childcare (woop!) and so we have a table booked at an Italian, and it will be really nice to enjoy a meal where we don’t have to wrestle with crayons and colouring and watching for spilled drinks. I can’t wait!

International Book Giving Day

Did you also know that that today is International National Book Giving Day? The idea behind it is to get books into as many children’s hands as possible. Did you know that in the UK one third of of children do not know own any books? That figure really, really shocked me. My children own so many books and we read every single day that the idea of a child not owning a book at all really saddened me.

So on International Book Giving Day the idea is to try and do one of the following:

  1. Gift a book to a friend or family member.
  2. Leave a book in a waiting room for children to read.
  3. Donate a gently used book to a local library, hospital or shelter or to an organisation that distributes used books to children in need internationally.

So if you are able to do any of the above today, that would be really, really amazing. Do go and have a read all about it on their website.

As a book lover this is something I really wanted to get involved with myself too.  So to get into the spirit of things and also to embrace the feeling of love as it is also Valentine’s Day, I have two books to give away one to a child and as I also think parents should make time to read, a book for a parent too.

Lick by Kylie Scott Giveaway

Again, keeping with the romance theme and as I am a big romance reader myself I wanted to give away one of my favourite romance novels. As parents, it is so easy to put ourselves to the bottom of the pile under the growing to-do list. So why not make some time to enjoy a book all for yourself this month?

Lick is a great fun book and is about a woman who wakes up after a night out at Vegas married to one of the most famous rock stars in the world. The only problem is, she has absolutely no memory of the night before at all.

If you would like to win a copy of this book, simply enter below.

  1. I didn’t take part in it although my son is an avid reader and we all visit the library every saturday morning to collect a good stock of books for the week.

  2. I think International Book Giving Day is a nice (kind) idea. I do tend to pass books onto others, and give some to charity shops, etc. So keen to remember and acknowledge International Book Giving Day Every Year.
