Hibernation Hotel is a great book for this time of year. It’s a book all about a bear who wants to hibernate, with a twist. You see, Bear wants to hibernate but he can’t because his friends keep bothering him and so he checks into a rather fabulous hotel to escape them all.

But Bear, you see doesn’t know what he wants. The bed is too soft, he is too warm and he just cannot work out why he cannot just go to sleep.

I am a big fan of illustrations in children’s books, and the drawings in Hibernation Hotel are fab. They are drawn with a sense of humour, for example when Bear wants a drink you have to do a double take at the page, because he’s not getting his water from where you would expect him to! These little fun details gave the children a giggle and added a real sense of fun to the story.

Hibernation Hotel by John Kelly - Aria with the book

Overall the story is about friendship and loving your friends for who they are which is a great message. It is also nice catalyst to discuss hibernation with your children and who, why and what animals do it at this time of year.

Verdict:

A really fun story with great illustrations and a lovely message about friendship. That both of my children aged 3 and 6 enjoyed.

Rating: 4/5
