Lovely Things

Welcome to June’s Lovely Things. It’s been a hectic couple of months, being diagnosed with gallstones and just over a week ago I had surgery to have my gallbladder removed. I’m getting there with my recovery and I am hoping that this time next week I will be back to normal. Surgery aside, May was a great month and it was mine and Aria’s birthdays, so there was plenty of good things to enjoy too.

Aria Birthday

May is a real month for birthdays in our family. It saw Aria’s second birthday, which I started by writing a letter to her on the blog. It is such a lovely age as she is just starting to comprehend what birthdays mean and get excited by things like cake, presents and did I mention cake? Aria had made it pretty clear what she wanted for birthday – a scooter and it’s all she talked about for weeks whenever her birthday was mentioned.

She of course got the much wanted scooter and was delighted. We took both children to a place called Little Street near us, which is just as it sounds a little street full of little shops for the children to play in. Afterwards we all went to Pizza Express so dinner. Aria is allergic to dairy, but pizza is one of her favourite foods, and Pizza Express are always great at making her up a special cheese free pizza much to her delight. All in all it was a fantastic day and I just loved watching both of the children’s joy and excitement.

My Birthday

May was also my birthday. I knew it was going to be quite a sedate affair as I as having an operation the afternoon before and unfortunately spending the night in hospital. Which meant waking up the morning of my birthday in hospital. Not that I got much sleep! But it was the best timing for the operation I could get and meant that I would be recovered in time for our holiday in a few weeks time.

My husband and the children came to get me and I went home in a haze of painkillers and was placed surrounded my cushions on the sofa. Then my husband had got me the absolute best present – an Olympus Pen Camera. I was delighted. In a weird coincidence I had started talking about how I would like to get better at my photography and stop using either my iPhone or a point and shoot and did some googling at the sort of cameras I would like, and the Olympus Pen was at the top of my list. Little did I know my husband had already bought me one!

The day after my surgery we had some family over for a laid-back barbecue while I sat one some garden chairs, I have to confess I was exhausted by the end of it, but it was lovely to see everyone.

Get Well Wishes

When I started blogging, I didn’t realise the friendships it would bring me too. This is something I have also written about on the blog – Blind frates and friends you have never met before – and I feel lucky to have made some lovely ones. I was really touched when a group of them got together and sent me a get well gift for after my surgery. Some flowers and Liz Earle beauty products. How kind 🙂 .

  4. Sounds like such a lovely month despite your surgery. I’m really intrigued by Little Street that sounds so cute and something my boys would love. I’m loving the strap that you have on your camera – I feel that my husband could do with a little bit of present buying coaching from Ben!
