New Year’s Resolutions – How I Did Last Year & This Year’s Goals
We’re two weeks into the new year, so I thought it was about time I wrote some new year’s resolutions and I reflected on how I did last year. I never really used to do resolutions as I wasn’t really sure what the point was. But I actually like setting myself goals at the beginning of the year even if it is just to see how things have gone a year later. I have already written my blogging goals, so this post is about my personal goals for 2016.
My 2015 New Year’s Resolutions
- Lose Weight & get fitter & healthier. I lost 2 stone in 2015, but I did ideally want to get to goal, but sadly this didn’t happen. I have put some on over Christmas, but I am back on plan now and working my way down.
- Start my own business as a Cambridge Weight Plan Consultant. I did this in February last year and now regularly clients. So done yay!
- De-clutter. A bit of a fail on this one. We have stared on some areas around the house, but there is certainly a lot more work to be done!
- Go back to my singing lessons. Sadly I didn’t manage this. It has been tricky as my daughter is quite a poor sleeper and often won’t settle for anyone but me and I have my lessons in the evenings. And now my husband travels quite a lot with work, but I am hoping to come up with a solution!
- Get more organised. Hmm another work in progress! I used to be such an organised person, but I think after you have children it’s very hard to plan as effectively as you never quite know what each day is going to throw at you!
- Blog more. Ha! Seeing my initial target was one blog a week, I think I’ve succeeded on this one!
- Read more. Another success I read 42 books in 2015, which is 11 books than I did in 2014. Woop!
- Hug my babies lots. I included this because I read somewhere you should hug your children 12 times a day, and also it’s just a nice resolution to have. What I try to do now is even if I am in the middle of something if my children ask for a hug I try to stop what I am doing and give it to them, because time is precious.
My 2016 New Year’s Resolutions
So what are my resolutions this year? As you can see, some are a continuation of last year’s a few new ones too.
- Continue to lose weight and reach goal – I just want to get healthier and stop the yo-yoing really.
- Move house – money and life permitting, we really need a bigger place, particularly now my husband is working from home, a place with a study and ideally an extra bedroom. I really hope we can make this happen.
- De-clutter (for real this time) – see above if we plan to move house, it’s crazy to pay to move stuff we no longer want or need anymore. Also it kind of drives me crazy too.
- Do something with my singing – I hope I can go back to lessons and I love singing so much that I would feel sad if I don’t find time to do at least something with it this year, even it is on a small scale
- Less shouting, more positivity – I struggle with sleep with my daughter and sleep deprivation and I do not go well. I am a person who needs my 8 hours. When I am really tired I tend to become quite snappy and I hate it. So I want to really work on this, sleep deprivation or not, I do not want to be snappy (or become the harpy as I have affectionately named my alter ego) with my family.
- Read 45 books – 4 more books, I can do that …right?
Great goals for 2016 Laura! I have no doubt that you will achieve them all. I’d love to hear you sing sometime! And, I hope you can move to a bigger place this year. I’d love some blogging space within my home this year, but forgot to add that to my 2016 goals, woops! x
Thanks Becky, I keep debating doing something singing on the blog, but keep getting too chicken! I hope we can move too I shall see how things go x
42 books! That is an achievement! It is so useful to list and reflect…but I have to be more organised first…Have to find a pen LOL. Hope the sleep issue resolves itself.
I need to get more organised too – desperately! And I really do love reading 🙂
Amazing goals, such a good balance of them. I read a book on decluttering (it’s that famous one by Marie something) it really helped and now my house is pretty much clutter free. It makes it so much easier to tidy and it makes it so much easier to get rid of things when you’re done with them, like toys etc, because you suddenly can’t stand clutter haha. I must admit I need to do the less snappy one too and more hugging. I love reading these. Good luck with all of them xx
I have seen a few blog posts on that book, I think I may need it in my life! I swear I start to make progress with the clutter and then it starts taking over again… those toys!
Good luck with your 2016 goals. I read a really great book called Better Than Before by Gretchen Rubin all about habits and how you can make a change stick. I would really recommend it as one of your 45 books for 2016 – I’m going to try and use some of her experiments to make my own resolutions stick (although I must admit I haven’t actually made mine yet!)
Thanks for the recommendation Sarah, I think I need to look out for that one. You’re right it’s not just about making resolutions but making the change permanent.
I love your resolutions Laura! You can do it! Good luck! I haven’t had singing lessons for 15 years, but is something I keep toying with. I really cannot sing anymore, so would be nice to get myself back into it. Look forward to seeing how you get on! And I hope 2016 is the year of sleep for you 🙂 xx
Thanks Clare, oh I hope you manage to get to do something with your singing again 🙂
Fab post huni. You did so well on your weight loss and so many other goals smashed. Here’s to a fabulous 2016. Thanks for linking up to #TheList x
Thanks so much Abi and thanks for hosting x
Wow, this was lovely to read and I am sooo jealous at all the books you read!! I need to read more! I never knew you sang! That is an interesting fact I have learnt about you 🙂
Gemma xx
You may hear some of it after a few wines at your wedding 😉 and you should make time to read it’s such a lovely way to escape
You have a good set of goals again, I’ve done a lot of de cluttering but my weight has been the biggest fail! I would like to get in my size 12s again. Best of luck. Oh I really love the hug your children more I’m going to hug them even more now ha!x
It’s always good to have an excuse to hug them more 🙂 Good luck on your weight loss, it can be a struggle but so worthwhile.
