Week Fifteen

I had a confession last week and I have a confession this week too. If I’m being honest, these last three weeks, since just before the school holidays have been pretty naff for me diet wise. I had lost 4.5lbs in that time, but this week I gained 1.75lbs putting me at 2.75lbs down in 3 weeks which isn’t great given the type of diet that I’m on.

I just seem to have lost my focus and keep ‘accidentally’ nibbling bits here and there and I’m really quite cross with myself about it. I sat down with my husband and had a chat about it at the weekend and at the crux of the matter I am still overweight with an unhealthy BMI and I still need to lose weight. This week I am about re-finding my focus and I am just going to look at things a day at a time, rather than looking at the longer journey for now. I really do want to hit goal, so I need to focus on the reasons why and getting there.

I am now 3.5lbs to two stone goal due to my gain, I am hoping if I really knuckle down I can achieve this next week.

I also only managed 1 workout last week rather than the planned 2 or 3. It was a really busy week with outings in terms of the summer holidays, but this week is quieter so I am planning to do at least 2.

On the positive side the workouts are obviously paying off because although I gained this week, I still lost 2cm off my measurements.

How do you re-find your focus when you’re struggling on a diet?

My goals are:

  2. My wedding rings now fit which is amazing, but I cannot take them up with my eternity ring. So my next goal is to get all 3 rings on my wedding finger. Watch this space!

  1. I really sympathise, personally focus is very hard to maintain and any slight change in circumstances for me makes it very tricky so I can totally understand how the school holidays have thrown you off course. Your approach to just take it one day at a time is a good one and that will help you regroup. But just remember although there will be ups and downs, overall you’ve come such a long way. You can do it! x

  2. I tend to measure rather than step on the scales these days, I used to obssess with my weight but find it easier to lose/maintain when weighing less regularly. I lose my focus a lot but I think I get myself back on track by keeping a food diary, when I see how much rubbish I’m eating it makes me think differently again.

    • I do know some people do better when they are not weighed, but I think I would actually find that harder. But I think you’re right that measurements maybe a better measure x

    • Thanks for linking up Amanda – what is it with picking? It’s not a good idea either way is it? Well done for getting back on track though 🙂

    • Thanks Donna. I’m not sure if summer or winter is harder to lose weight. With winter comes Christmas… but it is hard with all these picnics!

  4. Think about how much you have already achieved – 1.75 lbs up is disappointing, I know, but compared to the 24.5lbs you have lost it gets into perspective. It is hard to keep to your usual routines in the holidays, but you say yourself that you are busy so that all helps. Try to think in positive sentences rather than negative, e.g. I did a workout this week rather than I only did one workout this week. Every week is different, accept what you can do and don’t beat yourself up about what you can’t do. You have lost a huge amount in pounds and a fantastic amount in cms look again at those before and after pictures, you have achieved so much and next week will see you back on the downward path. I not think anyone with more than a few pounds to lose gets to goal without the occasional blip week.
Amazingly, having been so busy I lost track of what I was eating altogether, I went to weigh in expecting a gain, and found I had lost half a pound. Trying to be really good this week as two more pounds will take me down into the next stone.

    • Well done on your loss and thanks for your encouragement. I hope it will be gone at the end of this week and you are most definitely right most dieters do have a blip it’s getting back on it that counts x
