My Favourite Five Books: My Favourite Five Children’s Books That Will Make You Cry with Kelly {Kelly Allen Writer}

My Favourite Five Books

Today I would like to welcome to the blog Kelly from Kelly Allen Writer.  She is guesting in my series where different people share their five favourite books in a chosen genre. Kelly has shared with us 5 children’s books that have made her cry. I’ve not read all of the books on Kelly’s list, but I did write a review on Goodbye Mog a year or so and it really is a wonderful book.

1. The Lorax by Dr. Seuss

The Lorax

I do so well reading this, then on that last page I’m a goner. This book means everything to me, it’s the kinda book we all need to live by.

2. Goodbye Mog by Judith Kerr.

Goodbye Mog by Judith Kett

Well this book tears my heart of my chest and stomps all over it. I grew up on the Mog books so this book completely kills me. I can’t read it without crying and one child rubbing my back whilst the other goes in search of tissue!

3. The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein

The Giving Tree

If we want to learn anything at all in life, we must read this book! The kindness, sacrifice and selflessness of that tree… My children always get it out for me to read, and I do, but I always cry.

4. The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams and William Nicholson

The Velveteen rabbit

I adore this book. We had a reading from it at our wedding and it still rings true now. It’s beautifully sad yet suddenly up-lifting.

5. The Paper Dolls written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Rebecca Cobb

Oh I cried when I first read this. Simple and beautiful. I love the whole concept, the rhyme and rhythm, and the illustrations are wonderful.
